Each day she waits for sunset
And the quiet of a day just ending
Anticipating another twilight
Evening noises in harmony blending
Hurriedly, she goes to the garden
Light footsteps making no sound
Heart softly fluttering for she knows
Where her love can always be found
Roses emit their sweet perfume
She gives the gate a gentle shove
A lovely place so familiar
It was here that they fell in love
The hinges could use a little oil
She muses and makes a mental note
Recalling his voice and sweet embrace
From a time now so remote
Making plans and dreaming dreams
Of a future long and shining
Fate and war then intervened
With visions of love declining
Gathering her shawl around her
A chill in the late summer air
Brings back a love from long ago
As his memory visits her there
