July always brings to mind Family gatherings through the years Sounds of barbeques and horseshoe games Bring nostalgia to my ears Watermelon, ice cream and fireworks Wieners and burgers sizzling on the grill Just seem to go with Independence Day And, in my mind, they always will One favorite memory happened in Bush Park At a children's playground of all things With Mother swinging high in the air While Kathy rode a rooster with springs We took along our guitars and songbooks So we could sing and pick and grin I can still hear Daddy sing Precious Memories And picture him as he was then Enjoying the day as the sun set low We lollygagged till almost dark Fond memories linger with me still Of Fenton, Michigan's Bush Park Let's strike up the band and join the parade As we revel in this annual celebration So, here's to summer and the best of life And the birthday of our great nation Kathleen McCoy Eldridge© June 27, 2008 All Rights Reserved
