When I was least expecting it A familiar scene flickered through my heart My mind can review such wonderful times When through my memories they dart Sitting contentedly in our old porch swing Neighbors walked by to say hello A gentle breeze wafted through the air Happy birds drifted to and fro The little creek rustled in the distance Autumn leaves drifted to the ground A fuzzy squirrel scurried down the walk Rolling an acorn with nary a sound Days of sunshine; nights so nippy Flowers fading; new ones blooming The garden surrenders its final crop Winter cold so quickly looming The autumn season again approaches Summer fades and time is fleeting I sit helpless as you leave again Into my heart your love retreating Kathleen McCoy Eldridge© August 12, 2008 All Rights Reserved
