A mere shadow of her former, vibrant self
Her mind clouded with confusion
Allowing precious few moments of clarity
From this terrible affliction's intrusion
A voice that once rang with melodious refrain
Like a cascade of sweet wind chimes
Has all but gone with the ravages of disease
But she cannot remember those times
Her world diminishes with each passing day
Alzheimer's destroying her once fertile mind
Stripping her of pride and dignity
And a peace she can no longer find
Loved ones helplessly watching her decline
Giving sanction to the stranger she's become
Filling her surroundings and her remaining days
With treasured mementoes and a little piece of home
