Growing old is not for cowards,
All the aches and pains that come;
Bravery's compelled and earnest,
While time beats his steady drum!
For, tomorrow, I may open
Eyes that cannot see your face.
Ears grow silent, cadence slower,
Causing me to lean on grace.
I am weak, I am weary;
But, His strength will see me through.
I may find another soldier
Leaning on His shoulder, too.
All along this earthly journey,
On the rough and bumpy road,
We'll be learning, from our Savior,
Just the way to pack the load.
In the days of longer shadows,
When the step is not so light,
We will cheer with testimony
At that wondrous golden sight!
Then, we'll understand the reasons,
All His glory and His grace,
And we'll see there are no cowards
Ent'ring Heaven's pearly gates!
