I was feeling out of sorts the day I met her, I had troubles I would never understand. Yet the reason that I knew I'd not forget her, Was the way she looked at me and squeezed my hand, With a smile as big as all outdoors. She was beautiful, and radiant, and glowing, And I thought that she had never known a care. At the time I had no earthly way of knowing All the things she'd suffered, and would later share, With a smile as big as all outdoors. I had scowled at life each time I had a problem, Only smiling when all things had gone my way. But she took time to listen and help solve them As she showed me how to trust the Lord and pray, With a smile as big as all outdoors. I have learned what matters most is how you take it, When you face the irksome trials of daily life. Now my smile is real - and I don't have to fake it, As I rise above the things that cause me strife, With a smile as big as all outdoors. I have found I need not fret about tomorrow; I just trust the Lord to lead me day by day. And no matter what may come, of pain or sorrow, I will live my life to point men to the way, With a smile as big as all outdoors. So I hope that even though I may not know you, You will see the light of Jesus in my face, As I look at you with love, and try to show you How to find real peace by trusting in God's grace, With a smile as big as all outdoors. ©Betty Jo Mings 2001 Used With Permission All Rights Reserved By Author Website Mail
